Assisted Pull-Up

Assisted Pull-Up is a compound vertical pull exercise for the back and lat musculature. Use a controlled range that keeps the target muscles loaded and the joints comfortable.

Set up

  1. 1Adjust the seat and pads before loading the working weight.
  2. 2Match the machine pivot to the joint being trained whenever a pivot marker is present.
  3. 3Secure the thighs or establish a strong hanging position.
  4. 4Take a grip that keeps the wrists comfortable and lets the shoulders elevate at the top.

How to perform it

  1. 1Begin by drawing the shoulder blades down, then drive the elbows toward the ribs.
  2. 2Pull until the upper chest approaches the handle or the elbows reach the sides.
  3. 3Pause without leaning far backward.
  4. 4Return to full overhead reach under control.

Breathing

Inhale and brace before the lowering phase, then exhale gradually through the hardest part of the repetition without losing trunk position.

Technique cues

  1. Elbows to back pockets
  2. Stay tall through the chest
  3. Own the overhead stretch

Common mistakes

  1. Pulling behind the neck
  2. Swinging the torso
  3. Stopping before the lats are fully lengthened
